JAIPUR: A week after unidentified suspects stormed into a trader's house in Galta Gate and decamped with Rs 50 lakh cash and gold over 1kg, police are yet to make any arrests in the case which has become another mystery in their pile of cold cases.
A senior official informed TOI that police have roped in a team that specialises in analysing CCTV trails.
The unknown robbers had stormed into the trader's house at 7.30pm on August 24. They held the family captive before fleeing in a small car. A team of top officials following days also visited the house, but a breakthrough remains a far cry.
The case has echoes of similar hobbled investigations that saw no headway for weeks before they vanished from public memory. These puzzles include the UCO Bank robbery of 2017, Central Bank of India armed loot in February earlier this year and Shivdaspura jeweller loot on the same night of August 24, hours after the Galta Gate heist.
On July 20, 2017, akin to a rehearsed drill, two armed men barged into the UCO bank's Raja Park branch at about 9.30am. They held the bank employees captive before fleeing with cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 15 lakh on a bike. They fired three rounds of shots to subdue any chances of resistance.
The police teams ran helter-skelter for clues before the probe was closed in December same year. Fast forward to February 8, 2022, two armed robbers stormed into the Chomu House branch of the Central Bank of India and fled on an employee's scooter after stealing Rs 15 lakh from the vault room, minutes after the bank opened. It was as if the gang had borrowed a leaf out of the UCO bank robber's playbook.
Almost six months later, there is no clue about the two men yet. Sources said they have strained every nerve but in vain. "In both cases, the local police were instructed to follow CCTV trails of the getaway vehicles, but it yielded no result," said the official.
"In both cases, there were sustained efforts to pursue the accused. But as time wore on, local police's attention got shifted," said the official.
But a major embarrassment for city police came on the night of August 24. The city police was put on high alert with increased patrolling at all important places when the gang after robbing the trader in Galta Gate fled in their vehicle. A few hours after the Galta Gate incident, news came from Shivdaspura area that 2-3 armed men robbed a jeweller returning home with his nephew of gold and silver items worth Rs 10 lakh.
Jaipur police said that special teams are working round-the-clock, yet no headway has been made.
