CHENNAI: Three Class XII students of government school at Thiruvottiyur were sent to a government home for boys on Monday after they persisted with unruly behavior, including harassing girl students and locking teachers up in washrooms.
Police said teachers and the headmaster had repeatedly warned the three to behave, but they continued to harass other students and threatened teachers when they intervened. They would go and sit in other classes and disturb everyone by passing remarks against the teachers. The other students were afraid of the bullies and this had affected their focus on studies, police said.
Matters came to a head last week when the three locked some teachers in a washroom. They began to threaten the teachers when they were pulled up.
Education department officials then conducted an investigation, after which they decided to file a police complaint against the students. Based on a complaint by the school headmaster, Thiruvottiyur police had booked the students. They were sent to a government home for boys.
Police officials have decided to conduct counselling sessions for the rest of the students to bring in discipline. The school staff and police have planned to identify troublemakers and call their parents for the session too.
