Whale shark poaching curbed

Rajkot: Not a single whale shark was poached in 2021 as against 600 during 1999-2000 following the conservation efforts launched by the Wildlife Trust of India, Gujarat forest department and Tata Chemicals which launched ‘Save The Whale Shark’ campaign.
According to an official statement, the campaign has resulted in saving 850 sharks along the Saurashtra coastline. The company’s CSR head R Nanda said, “Around 50,000 fishermen and one lakh students were sensitized about conservation of this endangered species.” TNN
