Mangaluru: Ahead of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on September 2, around 30 migrants living in tents near Kuloor were asked to vacate citing security reasons. The PM will dedicate several important projects and address the gathering at Goldfinch City.
However on Monday, DC K V Rajendra clarified that they have been provided with temporary shelters.
The DC stated: “For security reasons and to make use of every place available for parking and other programme-related requirements, the city police had asked them to move out. Land for temporary accommodation would be provided to them in nearby places. The tahsildar and other staff from the labour department visited them and looked into alternative arrangements, including food. After discussing with the families, a permanent rehabilitation plan will be prepared, if they show interest to settle down here. They have been temporarily rehabilitated by Mangaluru city Corporation and with the help of the local corporator.”
According to sources, police asked around nine families to vacate their tents on Saturday. They were reportedly staying a kilometre away from Goldfinch City. Most of them hail from
Andhra Pradesh, and have been staying here for eight years. tnn
