Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said that the CBI found nothing during its search of his locker. A four-member team of the CBI conducted the search at a Punjab National Bank branch in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, for nearly two hours. Sisodia and his wife wre present at the time.
CBI officials searched Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s locker here on Tuesday, chaos reigning outside the bank as camera crews jostled with each other and curious crowds gathered to see what was happening. A team of about five Central Bureau of Investigation officials reached the PNB branch at Sector 4 Vasundhara in Ghaziabad, on the outskirts of the national capital, to execute the search, officials said.
The Supreme Court Tuesday disposed of a batch of 11 pleas, which had been pending since 2002-2003, seeking its intervention in the post-Godhra riots cases in Gujarat noting that they had become infructuous in view of the subsequent developments in the matter. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India U U Lalit noted that the prayer in the main plea was to transfer the investigation to the CBI, which was denied by the high court and that there was also a petition by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The supplementary chargesheet was filed at Patiala House court on August 17, and in it Fernandez has been made an accused. Delhi L-G VK Saxena has decided to pursue legal action against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders – Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, Durgesh Pathak and Jasmine Shah, among others – for making “defamatory” and false allegations against him in relation to a “scam” in 2016 when he was Chairperson of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), officials said.

India’s gross domestic product (GDP) for the April-June quarter (Q1) of the ongoing financial year 2022-23 rose 13.5 per cent, as per provisional estimates released by National Statistical Office on Wednesday. The GDP had expanded by 20.1 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2021-22.
Economists had estimated India’s economy to grow in double digits in Q1 of the ongoing financial year 2022-23 (FY23), with real GDP growth rates seen in the range of 13-16.2 per cent. A base effect of 20.1 per cent growth in the corresponding period year ago along with the moderation in the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and a pickup in service sector activity is likely to have supported growth, they said. Assam government Wednesday demolished a madrasa in Bongaigaon district over its alleged links with Islamic terror modules AQIS/ABT. This is the third madrasa to be razed by the government in the aftermath of the arrest of 37 persons with alleged terror links.

A 37-year-old grade-I police constable was run down by his brother-in-law and his accomplices over a land dispute at Cheyyur in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu district on Tuesday.

A Muslim student in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district was beaten up by his college mates for allegedly speaking with a Hindu girl Tuesday, said the police Wednesday.
Police officials said Mohammed Sanif, 19, a resident of Jalsoor village was assaulted at around 10.30 am at the college premises in the Kasaba village under the Sullia taluk.

Two minor girls, who have accused the head pontiff of the Murugarajendra Mutt in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district of sexual assault, Tuesday recorded statements before a magistrate.
The Chitradurga district police produced the two victims in the court of a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) to record their statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) as part of their investigations. The Madhya Pradesh Government on Tuesday decided to sell its Bell-430 helicopter which had crashed in 2002 at Rs 2.57 crore to the highest bidder, an official said here.
The helicopter, purchased in 1998, had crashed on February 21, 2002, in a field near Vijay Nagar in Indore while ferrying Bollywood singer Anuradha Paudwal to a government event.

The Police on Wednesday arrested the now-suspended Jharkhand BJP leader Seema Patra after she was booked for allegedly physically torturing her domestic help, news agency PTI reported.
Patra, who was BJP’s national executive member in Jharkhand, was suspended by the party on Tuesday. She is the wife of a retired IAS officer.
After a video of the domestic help, Sunita, narrating her ordeal, went viral on social media, an FIR was registered against Patra under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, and various sections of the IPC at Argora police station. Read more.
Two children drowned in the Yamuna and another was rescued Tuesday in Delhi’s Northeast district, said the police. The deceased were identified as Kartik, 14, and Vasu, 12.

According to a press statement issued by Noida Authority Monday, there was no damage caused to towers in Emerald Court due to the demolition. Post demolition, a joint inspection was carried out by Noida Authority officials and the Edifice Engineering team who found that there was no damage to the structure at Emerald Court, the statement read. UBS Teotia, resident welfare association (RWA) president said, “Except a few shattered window panes, which was expected, the damage has been absolutely zero. Noida Authority started the process of dust removal Sunday itself and the society looks completely clean now as it was before. The rain yesterday aided in settling the dust. At least 14,000 cattle have been infected with the Lumpy Skin Disease virus and 115 cattle deaths have been reported from Uttar Pradesh so far, a senior government official said on Tuesday.
