COIMBATORE: AIADMK councillors on Monday urged the municipal corporation to complete the integrated bus terminal work at Vellalore, instead of shifting the facility to another location.
According to recent reports, the terminal will be shifted from Vellalore, where the corporation had spent close to 40 crore for the project.
The project was initiated in January 2020 at a cost of 168 crore, when AIADMK was in power. Councillor R Prabhakaran urged the corporation commissioner to clear the air.
Commissioner M Prathap said that no decision was taken about shifting the terminal. “The decision will be taken by the government, based on the comprehensive mobility plan report, which is yet to be released. Once the report is ready, it will be tabled in the council.
The report is being prepared to suggest transport models for the city, locations for multi-level parking lots, functioning of present bus terminals and widening of roads,” he said. Earlier, Prabhakaran and councillor D Ramesh staged a demonstration in front of the council hall against the move.
