NASHIK : As part of 75 years of Independence celebrations, the health department of Nashik zilla parishad conducted 75 vasectomy procedures on men at the Palsan primary health centre in Surgana on August 23.
This programme of 75 vasectomies were carried out by the zilla parishad to spread awareness among the tribal population about the need and importance of family planning surgeries. The programme was undertaken under the guidance of Nashik zilla parishad chief executive officer (CEO) Leena Bansod and district health officer Dr Kapil Aher.
Officials added that as part of the 75 years of Independence celebrations, the health officials had gathered 75 beneficiaries of Palsan village and explained to them the importance of getting the vasectomy surgeries conducted.
The beneficiaries who underwent the procedure were also given the financial prize which the government has announced.
A large number of men still fear vasectomy as part of family planning, though tribal men of the district have shed this fear long back. The rate of vasectomy procedures is far more high in the tribal blocs of Nashik than in the non tribal blocs.
The rate of vasectomy surgeries in talukas like Nandgaon,Sinnar or Malegaon, Baglna , Chandwad is nearly nill.
