The Allahabad HC has asked the Mathura civil court to clear within four months a pending plea for an ASI survey of a plot where the Shahi Idgah mosque and Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sthal stand, and where Lord Krishna is believed to have been born. The petitioner has sought an ASI inspection, claiming the mosque was built after razing a temple.
The petition was filed on May 13 this year by Krishna devotee Manish Yadav in the name of his god, Bhagwan Shri Krishna Virajman. According to him, the plot where the mosque stands is the birthplace of Krishna as his uncle Kansa had imprisoned the gods' parents in the "Dwapar era" at the spot where the mosque was later built.
Justice Piyush Agrawal directed the Mathura court to "consider and decide" the application "after giving an opportunity to the parties concerned and without granting unnecessary adjournments to either of the parties, if there is no legal impediment". The petitioner had first approached the Mathura court for a survey and later moved the HC seeking expeditious disposal of the application. Mathura is considered the birthplace of Krishna and a civil dispute is raging over the exact place where he was born.
