LUCKNOW: Three brothers were arrested on Monday for allegedly killing a 19-year-old Dalit youth who had an affair with their sister. The youth's body was recovered from a sugarcane field in a village in Basti on Sunday.
Police claimed that the victim, Ankit, had an inter-faith affair with a local teenage girl and was killed by her three brothers - Irshad, Israr and Irfan - who were opposed to the relationship.
The teenage girl had allegedly committed suicide after Ankit's murder on Friday night and her burial was performed by the family in a huff, police claimed. The police also exhumed the girl's body on Monday for further investigation. ASP Basti, DN Chaudhary, said postmortem of both the bodies was performed.
“The viscera of the girl have been preserved for further examination, but the cause of her death could not be ascertained. On the other hand, the cause of the boy’s death has been ascertained as throttling,” said Chaudhary. On the basis of a complaint lodged by the boy’s mother, Kumari Devi, an FIR under the charges of murder, destruction of evidence and SC/ST Act has been lodged against Irshad, Israr and Irfan, said the ASP.
Chaudhary said that based on forensic reports and surveillance, it has come to the fore that on Friday night Ankit got a call from the girl and went to meet her. “The two were spotted in a compromising position by the accused. They throttled Ankit and then dumped his body in a sugarcane field. Stunned by the sequence of events, the girl consumed a poisonous substance, a sachet of which was also found in her room,” said the ASP. Later, when the accused returned home and found their sister dead, they immediately got her cremated without giving any information to the police or other relatives.
