BIJNOR: A fortnight after the Allahabad HC directed police to ensure a 30-year-old woman's entry back into her marital home "by all means", cops reached her estranged in-laws' house with a bulldozer to "ensure compliance with the court's order". The incident, much to the amusement of onlookers, occurred in Harinagar in UP's Bijnor on Sunday.
Justifying the controversial use of the bulldozer, SP (city) Praveen Ranjan said, "The in-laws didn't open the door to police despite repeated warnings. That's why we had to take the bulldozer. Only then did they let her in."
Expressing his delight over the police action, her father Sher Singh said, "I am happy that the police put pressure on her in-laws by bringing a bulldozer as they were not opening the door. Now, my daughter can rightfully reside in her matrimonial home."
SP (city) Praveen Ranjan said, "The court's order to the police was to ensure the aggrieved woman could enter the house by whatever means possible... ." After she was thrown out of her marital home, Nutan sought judicial intervention in the matter. Her father said, "When my daughter got married in 2017, everything was fine initially. But later, she was subjected to domestic violence by family for not bringing adequate dowry. When we could not fulfill their demands, they threw her out of the house. Even after filing a complaint against her husband and in-laws in Haldaur police station in 2019, they did not accept her back. Later, we knocked on the doors of the Allahabad HC."
