Scrap dealers by day, thieves by night; 4 held

Gurgaon: The city police busted a gang of four robbers who worked as scrap dealers during the daytime and committed robberies at night. Police said till now the gang has been involved in around a dozen robberies in industrial units and houses in NCR.
Their arrest came after their recent crime at a battery manufacturing unit in Sector 37. Police said on August 20, the gang members climbed the boundary wall of the factory and took the security guards hostage at gunpoint. Then they loaded batteries in a truck and fled from the spot before locking the guards inside.
A complaint was registered after which a team was formed under Amit Kumar, in-charge of crime unit at Sector 10 and the four accused were nabbed from different parts of Gurgaon.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rihan, Soaib 1, Akbar and Soaib 2. During questioning, the accused revealed that Rihan used to run a scrap shop while the other three roamed around the city to collect industrial and household scrap. “During collection of scrap, they used to survey the area and identify possible targets for robbery,” said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan.
