Jaisalmer: A highly explosive 82 MM mortar weighing around 10 kg, dating back to the Indo-Pak war of 1971, has been lying undisposed at Bapu ki Dhani in Gotaru area near the international border adjoining Shahgarh Bulj area of the district due to red-tapism.
The bomb found by the villagers on August 16 was reported to the Border Security Force (BSF), who then wrote a letter to the district administration and police to dispose the bomb but till date no action has been taken. However, recently the district collector, Tina Dabi had written a letter to the Indian Army for disposing of the same. Collector Tina Dabi said, “We received information about the bomb on August 16 from the police. On the same day a letter was sent to the Indian Army for disposing the bomb. Police and the district administration do not have a trained team and resources to destroy it” . We hope that it will be disposed of.”
Due to the delay, shepherds in the village are scared to go out in the field. According to sources, if the bomb explodes it would cause damage up to an area of 8 km. Hence it is important that it is discarded at the earliest.
The BSF has informed about it to Sagar police station, which has placed a sand bag on the bomb to keep it ‘safe’, I any person unknowingly tampers with it then there is a chance big explosion. TNN
