PRAYAGRAJ: While thousands of people, from several localities of the city and also from the rural pockets of the trans-Yamuna area remain badly affected by the ongoing floods, there are many who are busy providing help to these floods affected people, but they are grabbing the opportunity for roping support for themselves and the political parties they belong too. Although several NGO's and social organisations have come forward to help the flood victims, help has also come from the political leaders and influential people of the city, who are aspiring to strengthen their political graph.
In campaigning mode, vehicles carrying relief items and boats etc can easily be spotted in the flood affected areas, having names of the political party and its symbol along with the photo of the leaders of the given political parties. Be it present corporators, aspirants for getting the party tickets for contesting the next assembly elections or present MLA or their supporters, all are helping out the flood affected people but making it sure that people recognise who they are.
"There is no harm if people are using the opportunity for their political mileage as we are concerned with the timely help that is being extended and if someone is doing good deed, he has every right to expect reward too," said former vice president of Allahabad University student union and member of Samajwadi Party (SP), Adeel Hamza. Hamza was in the race for SP's ticket from Phaphamau in this year's assembly polls. The food packets distributed by Hamza carry his picture along with that of SP president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Likewise, a delegation of SP led by former district president of SP, Yogesh Chandra Yadav visited the flood affected areas including Badra Sonauti, Hetapatti, Sherdih, Chhotka Pura, Paraiyapar, Malwa Khurd etc. The delegation met the flood victims and informed the district administration about the problems faced by these victims. He demanded that BJP MLAs and MPs should go out of their homes and go to the villages to see in what condition the people there are living in floods.
Similarly, villagers of the trans-Yamuna area too are facing the wrath of swollen Yamuna, flood water of which has inundated villages including Kanjasa, Majhiyari and Semri Tarhar, Majhiyari etc. BJP MLA from Bara, Vachaspati visited the flood affected villages and met the villagers as well as distributed relief material including grains, candle, matches and biscuits and potable water. Likewise, a couple of days back son of deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's son and BJP member Yogesh Maurya had visited flood affected areas of Salori, Baghada etc and distributed relief materials with the help of NDRF team.
