Ex-ASI gets 2-year RI in bribery case

Bhubaneswar: A vigilance court here on Monday sentenced a former assistant sub-inspector (ASI) to two years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a bribery case.
Sashikanta Satapathy, who was the ASI of Nayagarh district’s Sarankul police station, was arrested by the vigilance department on January 28, 2014, for allegedly accepting a bribe from a man to show him leniency in a criminal case.
In another incident, the vigilance court awarded a three-year jail term to Umesh Prasad Das, a retired officer of Gridco in Khurda, in another bribe case. tnn
