2 cos booked for cutting of mangroves

Panaji: Forest officials havebooked a case against Allespack System and Tierra Height Developers for alleged destruction of 49 mangrove trees near the Nerul-Candolim bridge. Forest officials carried out a site inspection on Monday and found violations carried out under the Preservation of Trees Act.
In May, a police complaint had been similarly filed after the tenant association of the local comunidade was found to be responsible for destruction of 29 mangrove trees at Merces.
Forest officials are also investigating what caused mangrove patches to die along the national highway on the Merces-Santa Cruz route.
