PUNE: The Bharati Vidyapeeth police are investigating a case against a dog trainer from Ambegaon Pathar, after he has been slammed with allegations of subjecting a pet dog to a merciless beating that resulted in his death.
The unfortunate incident is said to have taken place on August 25 as per the complaint filed against the accused.
On Saturday (August 27), the 28-year-old dog owner, who is also from the Ambegaon Pathar area, lodged his complaint with the police.
According to him, two days prior, his dog pulled his leash away from the trainer's hands. The latter had grabbed the leash and angrily started pulling and beating the dog. In this process, the collar belt around the dog's neck had squeezed till the pet could not breathe. The trainer neglected to correct this and the dog died of strangulation, the complaint stated.
The police said the dog owner wanted the Euro breed dog to be trained. For this purpose, he had paid fees and handed over the dog to the trainer in good faith.
"The incident took place around 6.55pm on Thursday last week. the dog managed to give a slip to the trainer and ran towards the gates of the training facility. The trainer ran behind the dog and grabbed the leash. In a fit of rage, the trainer first beat the dog and then dragged him cruelly with the leash. In the process, the strap around the dog's neck was constricted extremely tightly and the dog died of strangulation," a police officer said.
