Panaji: A day after he said that the state government would hand over the Sonali Phogat investigation to CBI, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday shifted his stance, saying he’ll “think over it” if the Haryana government insists.
Sawant said that he has shared information with his Haryana counterpart, Manohar Lal Khattar. “I have shared a confidential report related to the Phogat case with the Haryana CM,” Sawant said.
Phogat, a Haryana BJP functionary and Tiktok star, came to Goa last week and died on Tuesday.
Goa police said that they would file the chargesheet in the murder case within three months.
Earlier in the day, DGP Jaspal Singh submitted a detailed report to the chief minister on the case.
“The Haryana CM has taken all information pertaining to this case from me,” Sawant said. “I have informed him that five persons have been arrested so far in connection with this case. Nobody will go free. The investigation is still on and we will do a full investigation. The Haryana CM requested that the case be handed over to CBI. I feel the investigation is being done properly. Despite this, if he requests us to hand it over to the CBI, we will think about it,” Sawant said.
The CM, who is also the home minister, said that Goa police would not tolerate any drug-related cases in the state.
Sawant said that the “anti-narcotics cell will be strengthened and it will directly report to the DGP, who will report to me”.
Meanwhile, Curlies owner Linet Nunes has filed for anticipatory bail in connection with the narcotics case registered in connection with the Phogat murder.
After Phogat’s death, Goa police initially registered it as a case of unnatural death. Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka demanded that a murder case be registered, and that the investigation be shifted to CBI. After the postmortem examination, police registered a murder case and the next day, arrested Sudhir Sangvan and Sukhwinder Singh, who allegedly forcibly gave synthetic drugs to Phogat.
In the narcotics case, Goa police has so far arrested three accused, all of whom have been remanded in five days police custody. Anjuna police said that Curlies owner Linet Nunes filed for anticipatory bail in connection with this narcotic case.
