HAVERI: An online fraudster allegedly cheated a local vendor of Rs 1.30 lakh.
The fraudster, claiming to be an SBI employee, called the victim, Satish Rokhade, over thephone and asked for the details of an SBI Elite credit card in his (vendor’s) name.
He asked the card number and Card Verification Value (CVV) for activation.
After the victim revealed the card number, the miscreant transferred money to other accounts.
According to the complaint filed by Rokhade, a fraudster called him twice — on July 31 and August 4 — saying his credit card needed to be activated and yearly maintenance charges will be deposited to his account.
“The fraudster transferred Rs 97,323 and Rs 30,435 to different accounts on July 4. He also transferred Rs 2,000 on August 4. A total of Rs 1,29,667 has gone from my account,” reads the complaint registered at Haveri CEN police station. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
