Churu district is notorious for liquor and narcotics smuggling.
Police have identified 24 out of 748 villages where not a single crime case has been reported in past 10 years to organise the event starting from September 3.
TOI on Sunday spoke to the senior police officers in Churu district to know about the idea of organising a sports league in which the participants would be from various police stations and youths of different police station areas and villages.
"Churu district has been used by the smugglers at a transit route to smuggle liquor and even narcotics and youth are sometimes misled by the gangsters like Anand Pal Singh and Lawrence Bishnoi. Thus, in order to bring the youth closer to us we have planned to organise this sports event. Moreover, youths with good conduct would be further facilitated by us while they are preparing for competition exams through physical training and other coaching," Digant Anand, SP, Churu told TOI.
Also, for the gangs operating in this region the employed youths are the soft target.
"All those who will participate would be made police mitra. Once people involved in crime come to know that the youth they are eying are already police mitra, they won’t dare to contact them," he added.
He added that police have identified 24 villages, where no crime has taken place in past 10 years, as the venue of the sports event.
"This is just to give a loud and clear message to the other villages that if they too will become crime free similar sports events would be organised there too. Also, we will felicitate these 24 villages during the sports event," Anand said.
Talking about teams, he said, "Each team will consist of cops from various police stations and locals, especially youths. It will also create bonhomie amid youths and police which we need for better community policing."
He added that at least 20 teams will participate in the event and interested youths can get an application forms from nearby police stations in Churu and submit them in the police station itself.
The inaugural match would be played between Sardarshahar and Ratangarh on August 3.
