Section 144 imposed after Dumka burn victim dies in Ranchi

DUMKA: The Class 12 student from Dumka, who was set ablaze by a youth on Tuesday, died of burn injuries at a hospital in Ranchi on Sunday. Her death triggered protests with right-wing groups taking out protests in Dumka on Sunday. SDO (civil) Maheshwar Mahto has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 as a precautionary measure. The victim had suffered 90% burns and was earlier admitted at Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital from where she was shifted to a hospital in Ranchi.
The accused, Shahrukh, was arrested on Tuesday soon after the incident.
“Women continue to be the most vulnerable section under the ruling dispensation with goons having lost fear of the law," Nitu Jha, district president of BJP's women wing, who led a protest march, said.
Bajrang Dal members took out a motorcycle rally and enforced the closure of local market for hours venting their ire.
The administration posted policemen in the town to ensure law and order.
