Panaji: The Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Indian Women Network (IWN) inked an agreement with Goa police on Monday to empower women police personnel and improve the work place environment for women.
Director general Goa police Jaspal Singh said the MoU aims at making police stations and the functioning of the department gender neutral.
IWN said that the women police personnel will be trained to respond to various challenges that surface in their personal and professional lives.
“If you see, the law is not gender neutral. Law is primarily based on the man’s experience. Therefore, even if there is a woman officer, she sees things from a man’s perspective. There is a man’s perspective in the organisation and CII can bring a more gender neutral perspective,” said Singh.
CII IWN aims to enhance the capabilities of female personnel as well improve the lives of women at their workplace. IWN will provide different subject matter experts to help the women address and deal with stress management, financial literacy and mental health.
IWN Goa chairperson Sheetal Pai Kane said that they will also try to enlighten and upskill the women workforce. “CII and Goa police hope to improve the work place environment for women while also enhancing the skills and capabilities of the women personnel,” she said.
Singh said that the department needs to keep pace with changing progressive norms and for this, the way women police personnel are treated at the workplace has to improve. “Being a hierarchical organisation, when we try to train our women personnel, when we ask them about their problems, the problems at the work place, they don’t open up. The idea behind roping in an outside agency is that we can bring in experience and the women personnel will also get an informal setting,” Singh said.
