In a key development in the national capital, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs are staging a dharna (protest) inside the Delhi Assembly. Sources confirmed that the protest will continue through the night of August 29 and the demonstration is said to be against Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
Saurabh Bhardwaj, during a press conference, said that all the AAP MLAs will sit under the Gandhi statue at 7 pm on Monday and they will stay inside the assembly overnight. Following the announcement regarding the protest, AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj arrived with a suitcase in hand, to spend the night at the Assembly.
Naming Lt Governor Saxena in the money laundering case, the AAP MLAs are staging an overnight protest, while demanding his resignation from office. Having levelled a corruption case against Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak accused him of executing a 'khadi scam'. As per AAP MLAs, the scam was orchestrated in the year 2016 and it revolved around the demonetisation decision announced by the BJP-led Centre.
At the time, LG Saxena was the chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and he was named in a corruption case to the tune of Rs 1,400 crores in the Delhi Assembly, earlier today.
It may be recalled that the AAP-led Delhi government and the LG were reportedly at loggerheads after Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, on Saturday, asked LG Saxena to 'behave like a Lieutenant Governor'.
Sisodia's statement came after the Delhi LG's office returned over 45 files to Arvind Kejriwal. Pointing out breaches of norms, the LG's office flagged that CM Kejriwal would send important files and documents without his undersign or signature.
