Prayagraj: Panic gripped Kuramuridan village and adjoining areas under the limits of Saini police station of Kaushambi district on Sunday after some unidentified miscreants allegedly damaged an idol of goddess Kali.
On being alerted, senior police and administrative officials rushed to the spot and carried out investigations. The volunteers of Hindu frontal organisations, too, gathered at the spot and demanded action against the miscreants involved in the desecration.
Saini police said that a fresh probe has been ordered into the incident and the guilty would be punished.
Villagers claimed that they had set up the new and bigger idol of goddess Kali in place of a small and old one at the village two days ago after performing all the rituals. The villagers found the idol broken on Sunday morning.
Soon, a crowd assembled at the site that demanded police higher-ups to take stringent action against miscreants involved in the incident. The villagers also demanded a new idol of goddess Kali.
Police said an FIR under appropriate section has been lodged regarding the incident and the guilty would be booked.
