GURUGRAM: Nuh police on Saturday arrested a 35-year-old man from Rihadi Mod while he was transporting 32 stolen laptops in his SUV. Police said they received a tip-off following which barricades were set up on the outskirts of the village. He used to buy stolen laptops through a gang and sell them in Delhi and Gurugram.
The arrested person has been identified as Islam alias Chaina, a resident of Rihadi. Cops said he was on his way to Sohna when he was caught. He planned to sell the stolen laptops there.
Based on a tip-off, police put barricades near Rihadi Mod from where the accused was caught escaping in his SUV. When police searched his vehicle, they found six plastic bags on the back seat and in the trunk. On checking, they found a total of 32 laptops in cardboard packaging.
When grilled regarding the large numbers of laptops, Islam accepted to have transported the stolen goods. He further told the cops that his gang members used to make deals with the truck drivers leaving warehouses where laptops were stored. They would pay compensation to the drivers for allowing them to steal the goods. They would then ask Islam to transport the laptops to various areas of Delhi and Gurgaon and sell them there.
"It came to the fore that the accused was in touch with the men who stole the laptops from Kolkata. He had not stolen the laptops but was in possession of the stolen goods. He was given the responsibility to sell them further," said inspector Surender Kumar from the Crime Investigation Agency.
A case has been registered at Sadar Tauru police station under IPC sections 379 (theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property). "We are conducting raids to arrest the other accused in the case. We are tracking them and have also informed the Kolkata police. They will be arrested soon," said the police officer.
