NASHIK: The Upnagar police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person for flying a drone over a restricted army area in Nashik Road.
The suspect has been booked under sections 336 (act endangering life and safety of others), 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 188 (disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant). API Rakesh Bhamre of the Upnagar police station, who is investigating the case, said they are checking if anyone around the army area was flying the drone on the day concerned.
As per the complaint registered with the Upnagar police station, on Thursday, around 10 pm, the base duty officer at the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CAATS), opposite
Gandhinagar, got a call from a duty officer who said that a drone was flying over the CAATS area at a height of 800 feet.
While the officers were seeking permission to shoot down the drone, the flying object left the restricted area.
CAATS is a no drone zone. The city police had also issued a notification in this regard about a few months ago. However, the drone flyer few the drone for two to three minutes violating the rules. On instructions of the senior officers, the base duty officer reported the matter to the Upnagar police station.
An FIR in this regard was registered on Saturday night. The Upnagar police said they were investigating the case and trying to find out the people who have drones in their jurisdiction so that they could be called for interrogation.
