AMBALA: Four people were arrested after cross-firing between two groups on Saturday in Ambala Cantonment. Accused Sumit, Gulshan, Raj Kumar, and Pradeep are all from this district.
A police party led by cantonment’s station house officer (SHO) inspector Naresh Kumar responded to the alert about shootout and stone-pelting in the Khatik Mandi area. When they were chasing the troublemakers, one of them, allegedly Gulshan, opened fire upon the cops. Police fired back and arrested the suspects near the waqf board’s office. A pistol is said to have been seized from Gulshan.
Two men took bullets in the shootout. Injured Sumit and Raj Kumar were moved to the Ambala Cantonment civil hospital. Sumit was hit in the leg and Raj Kumar in the hand. Sumit was referred to Chandigarh’s Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). Police registered two separate cases of attempt to murder related to this incident.
The first case on the complaint of SHO Naresh was registered against Sumit Kumar, Gulshan, Raj Kumar, and Pradeep ‘Buddu’ under 307 (attempt to murder), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. The suspects’ families reached the hospital and misbehaved with the on-duty policemen.
Ambala Cantonment deputy superintendent of police Ram Kumar said: “The groups of Aman ‘Bond’ and Aman Sonkar have an old rivalry. Last night, they attacked each other and, later, fired upon the police party that intervened.” SHO Naresh said: “We produced Gulshan and Pradeep in a court and secured their custody for a day.” The second case on the complaint of Sunil Kumar ‘Biru’ was registered against 10 men. tnn
