COIMBATORE: Police arrested two men in separate cases on Saturday for molesting two minor girls.
One of the victim, an 11-year-old girl, attended a session conducted by a police officer under ‘Project Pallikoodam’, a scheme launched by the rural police to sensitize school children to child sexual abuse, child marriage and cyber threats, at her school in Periyanaickenpalayam on Thursday. The next day, the girl approached a woman officer when she came to school to conduct another session, and told the officer that a man had been molesting her for the past one year.
“The woman officer questioned her further and came to know that the girl used to go to her friend’s house and a construction worker living next to that house had been molesting the girl,” said a police officer.
Based on a complaint from the girl, the Thudiyalur all-woman police registered a case against K Rajan, 57, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, and arrested him on Saturday.
In another case, a 13-year-old girl was taking bath in her house near Anaimalai on Saturday and her neighbour entered the bathroom and molested her. When the girl raised an alarm, the man ran away.
The Pollachi all-woman police registered a case against S Kalimuthu, 47, and arrested him on Saturday night.
The girl’s parents got separated a few years ago, married again and are living with their respective families. The girl is living with her grandmother.
