Rajasthan ranks 7th in crimes against kids

JAIPUR: Rajasthan ranks seventh in the country in crimes against children reported between 2018 and 2020. According to the Union ministry of women and child development, 19,115 incidents of crimes against kids were reported in the state during the period.
Madhya Pradesh tops the list in crimes against children with 55,028 cases followed by Uttar Pradesh (54,150), Maharashtra (52,855), Bihar (23,251), West Bengal (22,725) and Delhi (21,391). In all, 4.18 lakh such cases were reported in the country from 2018 to 2020, central data said.

Minister of women and child development Smriti Zubin Irani informed this in Lok Sabha while replying to an unstarred question on the subject 'Crime Against Children In Orphanages' - on August 5.
"According to information provided by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), 34 complaints were received relating to child abuse/exploitation in child care institutions (CCIs) including orphanages during the last three years," the reply stated.
Audit reports provided to DMs
It added, “NCPCR conducted a social audit of CCIs across the country in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order dated May 5, 2017.” “These reports and deficiencies found during the social audit in each CCI were also provided to respective district magistrates alongwith a copy to principal secretary, department of women and child development of respective state governments for necessary action,” the reply stated.
