Ludhiana police arrest man for killing youth

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana rural police on Saturday night arrested a person for murder of a youth in Jagraon area after a minor altercation. The accused was identified as Gurpreet Singh of Rumi village.
Police officials said that function are going on the death anniversary of Baba Nand Singh, Founder of Gurudwara Nanaksar Sahib wherein lot of people from across the country come to pay respects at the Gurudwara. They added that as the function is being held in Jagraon, so people of the villages around the area for service before the death anniversary function.
Cops said that as part of the function, a Sangat (group of devotees) from Kamalpura village went to Nanaksar on Saturday. They added 22 years old Lovepreet Singh of Kamalpura was also part of the Sangat and was driving one of the tractor trolleys.
Police officials said that when Lovepreet was going from GT Road to Kamalpura via Jagraon, on the way, the accused was also returning in his trolley after paying obeisance at Nanaksar Gurudwara. They added that each trolley drivers would sometimes go ahead of each other and sometimes moved behind each other due to which there was an argument between the two.
Cops said that after that the accused stopped his tractor in front of the trolley of village Kamalpura near Mohalla Gandhi Nagar on Raikot road. They added that there, in a fit of rage, Gurpreet attacked Lovepreet on the back of his head with some sharp object.
Police officials said that seeing the situation, the people who were sitting with him in the trolley, fled from there and Lovepreet fell down there after being badly injured. They added that after that Gurpreet left from there with the people sitting in his trolley.
Cops said that after the incident, Lovepreet Singh's uncle Paramjit Singh and others reached the spot and took the badly injured to Dayanand Hospital in Ludhiana but he died there. They added that after that the family informed the police.
On being informed, cops from Jagraon city police station reached the spot and started probe.
Police officials said that a murder case was registered against the accused on the statement of Paramjit Singh. They added that the accused was later arrested on Saturday night.
