Lok Adalat settles 12.9K matters; litigations worth 169cr resolved

Thane: As many as 12,930 matters including pre and post litigations were successfully cleared off during the third National Lok Adalat of 2022 held on August 13, under the guidance of principal district and sessions judge Abhay Mantri, officials informed.
The collective value of disputes and matters (pre and post litigation stages) that were settled at the Adalat is a whopping Rs 169 crores, informed district legal services authority secretary Ishwar Suryawanshi adding that Thane has seen the second highest rate of pending case disposal in the state, this time.
“Old cases, claims and disputes pertaining to civil matters, bank recovery, motor accident, labour, matrimonial and even those pending before consumer redressal commission are taken up and resolved at the National Lok Adalats. Even disputes between residents and civic bodies, power companies are heard and settled,” explained Suryawanshi.
Officials informed that among other matters, as many as 338 motor accident disputes were settled and claims collectively worth Rs 25 cr were also disbursed to the applicants including those where the widow of an accident victim got Rs 54 lakh compensation while in other, the family of a mishap victim got Rs 46 lakh compensation after the matter amicably settled through Lok Adalat.
Disputes related to cheque dishonouring were also handled wherein a five year old dispute related to Rs 80 lakh cheque bouncing was also heard while a domestic dispute over paying monthly maintenance to a 67-year-old father was also resolved wherein his sons agreed to pay him Rs 4500 each every month for his sustenance, following intervention by the Lok Adalat.
