Jaipur: Peoples Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has alleged that organising Ram Katha at the Raj Bhawan premises by governor Kalraj Mishra is a violation of the constitutional provisions. It appealed to the governor to shift the programme outside the Raj Bhawan by upholding the dignity of the post he is holding and also in tune with the constitutional scheme of things.
PUCL in a statement said PUCL is neither against Ram Katha nor against Ram or Vijay Kaushal Maharaj but the objection of the PUCL is that the governor who has taken the oath of office under article 157 is organising a religious event at the Raj Bhawan.
A five-day day Ram Katha by Vijay Kaushal Maharaj has begun at Raj Bhawan on August 27. PUCL president Kavita Shrivastav and general secretary Anand Bhatnagar in a joint statement said the invitation for the function sent by WhatApp messages carry the official seal and press releases were being issued by the information and public relations department of the event. It clearly indicates that this was not a private function of the governor.
They pointed out that the West Zone Cultural Centre which had put up an exhibition of Hindu gods and goddesses as part of the programme also comes under the scanner. tnn
