Surat: Sarthana police booked an offence of theft against an unidentified person on Friday who allegedly stole a computer monitor worth Rs 10,000 from a traffic police chowki. The burglar allegedly entered the Simada Naka chowki by breaking the front door during the early hours on Friday and decamped with the monitor.
The theft came to light only when traffic police staff came to work in the morning. The theft complaint was lodged by Shailesh Rathod, police inspector.
The traffic police staff locked up the gate of the chowki while leaving after their duty hours the previous night. During night hours, there is not much public movement in that area.
The burglar broke a portion of the door and entered the chowki and finding nothing fit enough to be stolen in the chowki, he chose to cart the computer that he could easily ‘lift’.
Police are working to identify the burglar from CCTV footage recovered from the area. Some suspects have been nabbed, but cops are yet to confirm if the thief has been arrested. “It is not clear if the person targeted the chowki intentionally. Only after questioning of the accused it will be clear that why the theft was carried out at a police chowki,” said a police officer.
