Delhi Highlights, August 29: AAP MLAs have begun holding a night-long protest at Delhi Vidhan Sabha demanding CBI investigation against L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena for his alleged involvement in Rs 1,400 crore scam.

As Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal called for a Confidence Motion in the Assembly on Monday, the BJP called it a “ploy” to distract people’s attention from the corruption allegations against the ruling party. Delhi Assembly has been adjourned until Tuesday 11 am amid protests by AAP leaders seeking the resignation of LG Vinai Kumar Saxena. The session was adjourned thrice on Monday as protests continued.

Placing the Confidence Motion in Assembly, CM Kejriwal said that it will prove that BJP’s Operation Lotus has failed in Delhi and they were unable to buy any AAP MLAs. BJP MP Manoj Tewari, hit back saying, “A party with 62 MLAs out of 70 will bring a confidence motion against itself, then get it passed, then it will get it printed in the media. What does AAP think of people of Delhi? Wasting public money and time.”

Amid ruckus and protests, BJP MLAs were earlier marshalled out from the Assembly session. Hitting out at the Opposition, Kejriwal said that it did not want to indulge in a proper discussion.

Not only CBI, ED should also take action against Saxena: MLA Atishi Singh

While taking part in the night-long protest against L-G, Kalkaji AAP MLA Atishi Singh said: "There were some serious allegations. The CBI filed a case, initiated an investigation and then left the prime accused Vinai Kumar Saxena out of the investigation. Two cashiers had repeatedly said that they were under pressure from the then KVIC chairman V K Saxena. Not only CBI, but the ED should also take action against him (Saxena) and conduct raids at his office and residence. Till the investigation is on, the L-G should step down from his post. We have sought time from the ED Director. Will the ED investigate the allegations and charges against others too or will it only investigate cases against states wherein BJP is not in power to help it topple the respective governments."

Work on the 1.42-km-long extension of the Ashram flyover to the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Flyway will be completed by November. The six-lane-flyover will ease the commute between Delhi and Noida and decongest the Ashram intersection which faces major traffic jams. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who conducted an inspection of the site Saturday, instructed engineers to install additional cranes at the site to increase the speed of work, according to a communication from the Deputy CM’s office.

Emerald Court, the residential society neighbouring the site, saw a flurry of activity early Saturday before the demolition of Supertech Towers, with visits by Noida Authority officials, BJP MLA from Noida Pankaj Singh, as well as with deployment of fire tenders, ambulances and water tankers near the society. The society premises in front of the clubhouse was covered with plastic sheets to ward off dust and debris and residents were making plans to leave the premises before the demolition on Sunday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is “a party of illiterates (gawaar logon ki party)” and they want to keep the entire country illiterate, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said at a press conference on Saturday. This comes a day after L-G V K Saxena sought a report from the Chief Secretary over a delay by the Vigilance Department in acting on an inquiry report by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on construction of additional classrooms in Delhi government schools.
