Rajkot: Four people including a sarpanch and his brother were booked under Atrocities Act for allegedly hurling casteist slurs at people during an anti-encroachment drive in Shapar-Veraval village adjoining the city.
The incident had happened on August 16 when Veraval sarpanch Ravirajsinh Jadeja’s brother Gopalsinh had allegedly hurled abuses at people who were resisting the drive. Gopalsinh’s videos went viral and one person named Bhavin Ranva, who received the clips on his mobile phone, approached his community leaders to lodge a complaint.
When Ranva and others called up Jadeja, the latter and his other friends Govid Makwana and Ramesh Vaghela, again hurled expletives at them and spoke disparagingly about their caste.
Ranva then lodged a complaint against the four with Shapar-Veraval police station
