JAIPUR: The crime branch of Jaipur police claimed to have recovered 19 live cartridges from wanted gangster Manish Saini and his aide during a raid in Pratap Nagar.
Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba said police arrested Saini and his aide Surendra Singh, alias Chandan.
The duo were caught on Thursday. DCP (Crime) Paris Deshmukh said Saini runs a gang with his cohorts in the city. The accused also provided shelter to other absconders from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh etc.
Deshmukh said Saini’s gang has been involved in extortions and loots.
Lamba said the accused has also been targeting people involved in betting and gambling. “He (Saini) is a history-sheeter of Malviya Nagar police station. There are criminal cases against him at different police stations including Sanganer, Muhana,” Lamba added.
Jaipur police said Saini was booked in a total of 29 cases. “The police teams were searching for him for the past several weeks. But the accused kept changing his location from one place to another,” Lamba said.
The sources in the crime branch said they were probing why the gangster had accumulated so much ammunition.
Officials believe that Saini’s arrest is likely to yield important clues about his gang’s network.
