HYDERABAD: TRS working president and minister KT Rama Rao said southern states may be penalised by way of reducing number of parliamentary seats as and when the Centre takes up the delimitation exercise.
In a tweet on Friday, KTR said: "All the southern Indian states have been better performers on many counts, including population control. From what I am hearing, we may be penalised for the same by way of reducing number of parliament seats in delimitation. If it does happen, it will be a travesty of justice (sic)." As per statistics, population share of the southern states has been decreasing from 26.2% in 1951 to 19.8% in 2022, he said.
Telangana has 17 Lok Sabha seats and 119 assembly seats. The state government has been demanding the Centre to enhance the assembly seats to 153 as per the assurance given in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
