PUNE: Around six men opened fire on a car and robbed cash worth Rs 3.5 crore after intercepting the vehicle at Varkute village on Pune-Solapur highway at Indapur around 2.30am on Friday.
The robbery came to light after the car driver Bhaveshkumar Patel and his colleague Vijaybhai Solanki both Angadias (private courier service) reported the incident to the Indapur police in rural Pune around 11am.
Inspector Ashok Shelke from the rural police crime branch said, “Patel from Mumbai having roots in Gujarat collected money from businessmen in Solapur and was on way to Pune, when the robbers travelling in a car chased him. The robbers fired two rounds on the left side of Patel’s car after he slowed down at a speed breaker. Patel could not pick up speed because the highway was congested with traffic and the robbers intercepted his car and robbed the cash bag from the dickey, took a U-turn and sped away in the direction of Solapur.”
Shelke said, “We have formed six police teams for conducting investigations in rural Pune, Satara and Solapur districts to arrest the robbers at the earliest.”
Patel has registered an FIR under sections 395 (dacoity) and 397 (using deadly weapons while committing dacoity) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
