PUNE: Three armed men late on Wednesday night barged into a jewellery shop in Khed-Shivapur, about 22km from Pune, along the Pune-Bengaluru highway and robbed gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh at gunpoint.
One of them fired a round towards a hair cutting salon and another in the air in likely bid to create terror among shopowners and public. “We found one round at the spot. Teams of the Rajgad police and local crime branch have been fanned out to trace the trio,” assistant inspector Nitin Khamgal of the Rajgad police told TOI.
Dhuksingh Rajput (52), the owner of Shri Ganesh Jewellers in Shivapur, has filed a complaint with the police.
Khamgal said around 8.30pm on Wednesday, three men entered the shop when Rajput and his nephew were inside it. “The trio had covered their faces with monkey caps. One of them aimed a country-made firearm in Rajput’s direction and threatened him and his nephew to keep quiet and not move. His accomplice smashed the glasses of the display with a sharp weapon,” Khamgal said.
He said the third suspect picked up the gold ornaments from the boxes. The complainant has provided the description of the trio. “They were between the age of 25 and 30,” Khamgal said.
