Rajkot: 2 booked for abetting woman’s suicide

RAJKOT: The University Road police have booked a 36-year-old man and his mother for allegedly driving his wife to suicide. The woman, Mittal Sakariya, had hanged herself at their house in Darshan Park on Raiya Road on August 22.
Mittal and Yogesh were married for 15 years and have a 13-year-old son. Police booked her husband Yogesh, who owns a food factory in Metoda GIDC, and mother-in-law Prabha, after Mittal's brother lodged a complaint.
For the past three years, the accused duo were allegedly torturing the woman over household chores and were also disparaging about her father. Eight months ago, Yogesh called up her father Ratilal, who lives in Nagpur village of Kalavad taluka, and asked him to take away Mittal.
However, a week later, his brother and Prabha went to her house and struck a compromise to bring her back. A month ago, when Mittal and Yogesh had gone to visit her parents, the latter picked up a quarrel and slapped her in the presence of all family members. He allegedly told her that he did not want her his house and that he would marry someone else.
On August 22, Mittal went to her in-laws house as she was missing her son. But the same day, she took the drastic step.
