BHOPAL/JABALPUR: A grieving schoolteacher in MP's Dindori couldn't bear to be separated from his wife after her death and buried her corpse inside his house despite opposition from relatives and neighbours.
Omkardas Mogre turned his wife Rukmani's grave into an indoor shrine of sorts and decked it up with flowers. He slept next to the grave, which made it clear to everyone that he had no intentions of parting with his wife of 25 years. Neighbours panicked and approached the collector who ordered officers to exhume the body and give her a proper burial. Rukmani died at home near Dindori's Birsamunda Stadium on Tuesday.

She battled sickle cell anaemia for around 10 years and the couple had no children.
When relatives gathered for her last rites, Mogre asked them to help him bury her inside his house.
They tried to convince him otherwise but he refused, saying he couldn't go on without her. Relatives had to give up and helped him dig a pit for the burial inside his home.
Neighbours however got upset and rang police for help, but no action was taken.

Then they approached the district collector. When a team from the district administration arrived at his house with exhumation orders, Mogre protested, saying that he considers "humans and spirits as equal" and there was no need to take the body away from him.
He relented after senior officers intervened and allowed them to exhume her body.
A relative, Jaipal Das Paras, told local reporters that Mogre is shattered by his wife's death and wanted her body to be inside his house till his last breath.
