
Delhi News Highlights: BJP leaders launched a padyatra from Lal Quila to Fatehpur chowk on Saturday demanding the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the BJP of conspiring against elected governments and toppling them using the same tactics such as ED and CBI raids. He said the saffron party is using the same pattern for Delhi too. “Shehar mai ek serial killer aaya hai. Janata sarkar chunti hai, ye gira dete hai…(There’s a serial killer in town. People elect a govt, they (BJP) topple it),” he said. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday that the “BJP is acting like a serial killer to topple state governments”. The assembly session itself began with slogans being exchanged between BJP and AAP MLAs, with the latter entering the Vidhan Sabha with slogans of “20 khokha 20 khokha” alluding to allegations by AAP of BJP offering Rs 20 crore to its MLAs to switch sides. The eight BJP MLAs hit back with slogans of “dhoka dhoka”.
With a day to go for the Supertech twin tower demolition, a final round of checks was carried out by Edifice Engineering, along with teams from Jet Demolition and Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Friday. The process will continue Saturday. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has declared a no-flying zone of one nautical mile airspace around the towers during demolition due to dust expected to emanate, as per the Noida Authority.
As many as 100 water tankers, 15 anti smog guns, 6 mechanical sweeping machines and 200 sanitation staff will be deployed by Noida Authority. Instructions have been given to clean the trees and plants affected by the blast by spraying water on them. AQI mapping instruments will be monitoring the effect of the demolition on the air quality. Once Edifice Engineering conducts its checks, teams deployed by Noida Authority will start cleaning the dust collected on the roads, footpaths, neighbouring societies by spraying water and dust control steps will continue for the next two days. The residents of Parsvanth prestige, Parsvnath Srishti, Gejha village, and other residents of Sector 92, 93, 93A, 93B including children, the elderly and those suffering from respiratory diseases have been asked to wear masks beginning from 2.30 pm till a few hours.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Saturday inaugurated the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School. Notably, this is the first fully residential school of the state government.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia and Transport Minister Ashok Gahlot, among others.
Addressing the parents and children selected for the school, Sisodia said that the Desh bhakti curriculum will help prepare students for the country’s Armed forces. Read more

The Delhi Assembly Friday unanimously agreed that a message sent by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to speaker Ram Niwas Goel, to amend rules for the conduct of business and procedure of the House under the GNCTD (Amendment) Act, 2021, was contrary to the constitutional provisions and Supreme Court’s decisions.
In a message to Goel on August 27, the L-G had pointed that even after 14 months of the GNCTD (Amendment) Act, 2021, coming into effect, the Delhi Assembly has kept pending necessary amendments in its ‘Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business’ and asked the Delhi Legislative Sabha Speaker for “Constitutional compliance”. A day after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora seeking cancellation of a show by comedian Munawar Faruqui in the national capital, scheduled for August 28, the licensing branch of the Delhi Police has rejected permission. This comes after the central district police sent the branch a report that “the show will affect communal harmony in the area”, it is learnt. When contacted, JCP (licensing branch) O P Mishra confirmed that permission had been rejected after receipt of a report by the local (central) district police. Read more.

The Delhi High Court has quashed an FIR registered against a government school teacher here for carrying a live cartridge to the airport while asking him to take extra classes for weak students in his school for a month.
Justice Jasmeet Singh asked the Directorate of Education to identify the weak students in primary classes in the neighbourhood and also requested the school principal concerned to provide a room for the extra classes which would be held for two hours on each working day.
“FIR registered at police station IGI airport under section 25 of Arms Act 1959 is hereby quashed, subject to the petitioner taking extra classes of two hours each working day, for weak students in the school premises which he currently teaches in, for a period of one month,” ordered the court in its recent order. Early on Friday morning, the road outside the Supertech twin towers was empty save for guards and barricades. Soon, workers began to arrive to carry out the final preparations before the buildings are brought down on Sunday afternoon. As the morning wore on, curious onlookers arrived to see the towers while residents of the adjoining Supertech Emerald, who will temporarily evacuate on the day of the demolition, walked their pets.
The towers will be demolished at 2.30 pm via a controlled “implosion” by Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering and South-African company Jet Demolitions. Some workers said they have worked on large demolitions previously, but none on the scale of Supertech one. Read more
Noida's Supertech Emerald twin towers measuring around 100m will be demolished on August 28. DCP central Noida Rajesh S, in a press conference on Friday said: "Two societies are being evacuated completed Supertech emerald court which has 15 towers and ATS village which has around 25 towers and 4 villas. By tomorrow evening 80 percent people will be evacuated. ATS village has 736 flats and Emerald has around 660 flats. There are around 1,600 cars in ATS village and 1500 in supertech emerald. A helpdesk will be kept along with two police personnel near the two societies. People will start leaving by today evening since it is the weekend and they are leaving on their own. The deadline for evacuation is Sunday 7 am which also includes vehicles. Between 7 am to 1.45 pm some society guards will be at the two societies to check the premises. By 1.45 pm these guards will also leave. One police personnel will be present for the blast."

The prison administration on Thursday night shifted alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar and his wife Leena Poulose from Tihar jail to Mandoli jail, DG (prisons) Sandeep Goel said. Hours later, the prison administration decided to reshuffle the staffers at Mandoli jail and are sending around 20 staffers from Tihar jail to replace them, sources said.
The jail administration shifted the duo days after the Supreme Court’s direction in this regard. A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sudhanshu Dhulia had ordered the same on a plea by Chandrashekhar who had approached the court citing a threat to life. The court, however, refused to accede to his request to be transferred to a prison outside Delhi. The bench took into consideration an affidavit filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which opposed his request saying that it was “only to carry out his nefarious activities from there as he was finding it difficult to carry out the same from Tihar”. A Twitter spat broke out between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday over the Assam government’s reported decision to close some schools over poor results.
Firing the first salvo, Kejriwal quoted a news report on the said closure and wrote that the decision of the Assam government to close schools was not the solution. The report mentioned that 34 schools in the state were being closed down due to non-performance of students in the high school leaving exam. Read more

Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla on Friday marshalled out all BJP MLAs for the entire day of the special session over a video recording by saffron party legislator Ajay Mahawar. Birla asked Mahawar if he made a video recording of the Assembly proceedings by going against the laws. "Have you done the video recording? If you have, then why should your phone not be seized? This is against the laws of the House," she said.
Mahawar and his party MLAs did not respond to Birla's questions. The AAP and the BJP MLAs got into a war of words over the issue. Following this, Birla said BJP MLAs have wasted the time of the House and marshalled them out (PTI)
