AgenciesNEW DELHI: Benchmark indices opened higher on Thursday ahead of the expiry of August futures and options expiry. Asian markets were largely mixed, while the US stocks settled marginally higher overnight, offering little cues to domestic investors.
At 9.35 am, the BSE Sensex was trading 351.01 points or 0.59 per cent higher at 59,436.44. The index tested the 59,000 level in early trade. Nifty50 was trading above 17,700, up around 100 points or 0.59 per cent. The midcap and smallcap indices rose to 0.80 per cent .
"The resilience of the Indian market even amidst global volatility can be attributed mainly to two factors: One, the strong growth momentum in the economy and two, the steady FII flows even when the Dollar has been appreciating. The FII inflows are steady since the market perception is that the dollar has peaked. So the near-term texture of the market is likely to remain 'buy on dips," said V K Vijayakumar of .
Among Sensex stocks, climbed 1.65 per cent to Rs 751.10. , , and rose 1.17 per cent, 0.87 per cent, 0.89 per cent and 0.84 per cent, respectively. , , and added up to 0.6 per cent.
Asian Paints, and fell 0.56 per cent, 0.21 per cent and 0.16 per cent, respectively.
