PATNA: A series of CBI raids on premises belonging to two RJD MPs and an MLC in Bihar and a proposed Gurgaon mall allegedly linked to deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav coincided with Nitish Kumar government’s floor test in the assembly on Wednesday, prompting the seven-party coalition to scream foul about JD(U)’s spurned ally BJP acting out of spite.
The properties searched by the CBI as part of its probe into the alleged 2004 land-for-jobs scam in the railways included the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Ahmad Ashfaque Karim in Katihar along with his guesthouse at Katihar Medical College and another one on the Al-Karim University campus.
The agency raided RS member Faiyaz Ahmad’s residence and the premises of Madhubani Medical College, an institution founded by him. Separate CBI teams knocked on the doors of MLC Sunil Singh, ex-MLC Subodh Rai and former MLA Abu Dojana, all from RJD.
Tejashwi denied any association with either the under-construction mall in Gurgaon that was searched or its promoter.
“Let them (the CBI) do whatever they want. I will reply inside the House,” he said moments before the special assembly session in which Nitish would go on to win the trust vote.
