Nagpur: Continuing his tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole on Wednesday said since 2014 the country was witnessing a “forced emergency” and “dictatorship” in the name of democracy.
“From the recent events, it has become clear that the BJP is misusing agencies like ED, CBI and income tax department to topple opposition governments and split rival parties. The central government has failed to address basic issues of public welfare like inflation and unemployment. Till date, successive governments in the country were working on the principles of democracy and constitution. But since 2014, the BJP-led central government has been working in a dictatorial manner.”
Speaking on the sidelines of Maharashtra assembly session, the Sakoli MLA said the BJP had adopted the divide and rule method like the British. “CBI and ED action is being taken against leaders or political parties who do not support the saffron party’s ideology. The BJP is working to end the opposition in the country. CBI raids on Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Manish Sisodia and Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA’s house in Delhi are examples of their strategy. They are misusing central investigating agencies for political gains. On the other hand, those who start supporting BJP are never prosecuted. The party has forgotten promises made to the people and is ruling more ruthlessly than the British empire,” he said.
Reminding BJP leaders of their promises made to the public before elections, Patole, also former assembly speaker, said they were working only for a handful of industrialists. “They had assured to reduce inflation, double farmers’ income, provide 2 crore jobs every year, and bring back black money stashed in banks abroad. Today, inflation and unemployment are at an all time high. Farmers continue to face problems and end their lives. To avoid giving answers to the real questions, the BJP continues to raise religious issues. People are tired of BJP and their place will be shown in the upcoming elections,” he said.
