Nagpur: Despite having no permits, two-wheeler taxis are allegedly plying in the city. In the last two days, flying squad of regional transport office (Nagpur city) has detained 29 two-wheelers attached with cab aggregators Ola and Uber, as per deputy RTO Ravindra Bhuyar.
Following complaints regarding “rampant violation” by Ola and Uber, Bhuyar formed a squad led by assistant RTO Harhsal Dake. The team laid traps and on Tuesday nabbed seven two-wheeler taxi riders from different places in the city. On Wednesday, action was taken against 22 riders.
On Wednesday too, the team nabbed 22 two-wheeler taxis allegedly operating for both the cab aggregators.
ARTO Dake said no permission has been given to any individual or firm to operate bike taxi services across the state. He further said that two-wheelers, especially motorcycles, are non-transport vehicles and cannot be used for passenger transport.
“With rampant violation of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Act by app-based aggregators, the Nagpur city office will approach the transport commissioner’s office in Mumbai to take appropriate action against Ola and Uber,” Dake said.
In the past too, several bikes were seized and their owners fined for transporting passengers.
