Tamil Nadu: Gang of 12 hacks to death 2 rowdies; 4 people surrender in Manimangalam

CHENNAI: Two history-sheeters were hacked to death by a gang of men in Manimangalam on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday night. Four people later surrendered before the Manimangalam police in connection with murders of Surendar, 20, and Vignesh, 23.
The incident happened close to the Manimangalam police station. Police said Surendar and Vignesh were involved in murder and attempt to murder cases.
Around 10pm on Tuesday, the two were walking to an eatery in the area. When they reached a temple, 12 men who came on at least five bikes, intercepted them and attacked them with sickles and knives. The gang escaped after attacking them. The members of the public who heard their cries, informed police.
Based on information, the Manimangalam police rushed to the spot. The duo were sent to Chromepet Government Hospital where they were declared dead. Their bodies were sent for postmortem. The gang which brutally attacked them also disfigured their faces, police said.
According to police, on March 31, 25-year-old history-sheeter Devendran of Manimangalam, MGR Nagar went missing from home. Devendran was into ganja peddling in the area. After consuming ganja he was involved in robbery. Since Devendran did not return home, his father Panchatcharam lodged a complaint with Manimangalam police.
While police launched a search for him, they found him hacked to death at the terrace of a building. Police after preliminary investigations found that he had procured ganja from outside and has been selling it in the locality. In a fight that broke out between his friends, Devendram was murdered. Police arrested Vignesh, Surender and his friends Sathish,20, Sudhakar, 21 and Ansari, 22.
Surender, Vignesh and his friends, who were arrested in the murder case, were later released on bail. Police said the murder has happened to avenge the killing of Devendran. Police have collected footage from CCTV camera in the locality and launched a search for the gang members.
