PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Tuesday carried out a combing operation in the commissionerate to avoid any untoward incidents during the forthcoming Ganeshotsav.
Over 500 criminals on police records have been checked and 26 of them have been arrested. The police also carried out nakabandi operations on major roads in the city and inspected 970 vehicles. The police have collected a fine worth Rs51,000 from 81 vehicle owners under Motor Vehicle Act.
Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Prashant Amrutkar said that Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Anksuh Shinde had issued orders to carry out combing operation in the commissionerate in order to prevent body offences and property related crimes. "Five assistant police commissioners, 26 inspectors, 55 assistant inspectors and 496 policemen had carried out combing and Naka bandi in the jurisdiction of all the police stations," Amrutkar said.
He said that the teams were asked to check and trace the suspects who were on the run in serious crimes like murder, dacoity and robbery. They were also asked to check the whereabouts of the externed criminals by visiting their houses. "All police stations were told to visit the houses of the top 25 criminals in their jurisdiction," the officer said.
