CHENNAI: While most BJP woman functionaries remained silent over the release of the 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gangrape and murder case, the party’s national executive committee member Khushbu Sundar Wednesday aired her views against the Gujarat government’s remission order and demanded justice for the victim.
“A woman, who is raped, assaulted, brutalised and her soul scarred for life must get justice. No man who has been involved in it should go free. If he does so, it’s an insult to humankind and womanhood. #BilkisBano or any woman, needs support, beyond politics and ideologies. Period,” Khushbu tweeted.
On the other hand, national president of BJP women wing Vanathi Srinivasan said since the BJP government in Gujarat had released them, it could not be given a political angle. Vanathi told TOI that the Gujarat government would have assessed each case under the remission policy. The convicts would have been released based on the guidelines and “merit of the case”, she said.
She, however, added that crime against women should be dealt with severely and there was no difference of opinion on it.
