MUMBAI: A 53-year-old accountant from Borivali was duped of Rs 2.7 lakh by a cyber-fraudster who offered to help him redeem reward points on his credit card. Borivali police have registered an FIR.
The 53-year-old complainant told the police that he has been using a credit card for 10 years. He lives in Borivali with his family. On August 20, he was home as it was a holiday.
At 8.10pm, he received a text which said that 3009 reward points had accumulated on his credit card and the points would expire within 24 hours. The complainant's card details were demanded in order to redeem his points.
"The complainant shared his card number as well as CVV. Around 8.40 pm, money started getting debited to his card in installments. In 10 transactions, he lost Rs 2.79 lakh," said a police officer.
The complainant told the police that the text sent by the fraudster also got deleted automatically.
An FIR was registered on August 20. Borivali police are looking for the cyberfraudster.
