HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed police not to compromise and spare anybody while dealing with law and order situation in the city. He directed the officials to act tough against whoever tries to disturb communal harmony in the city.
With protests rocking the Old City both on Tuesday and Wednesday following remarks by Goshamahal legislator T Raja Singh on Prophet Muhammad and subsequent incidents, the CM held a high-level meeting with chief secretary Somesh Kumar, director general of police M Mahendar Reddy and Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand for about four hours at Pragati Bhavan on Wednesday evening.
He reportedly directed the officials to deploy additional forces and restore normalcy in the city, especially the Old City by Thursday. He also discussed bandobast arrangements for Friday prayers in the Old City.
Barring some sporadic incidents in the morning, the officials informed the CM that the Old City and other areas were under control and police forces have been deployed at strategic locations.
KCR reportedly said "if any leader is involved in violent incidents, no matter which party he belongs, should not be spared. Legal action should be initiated against the person". "There were no major law and order issues or communal riots in the city after TRS came to power. If there are communal disturbances, it will dent the reputation and image of Hyderabad, which was built over the years by the TRS government," the CM is believed to have told the officials. "All the measures have been taken to bring normalcy in the Old City. The situation is now under control," home minister Mohd Mahmood Ali told TOI on Wednesday.
